The trauma of child sexual abuse affects survivors long after the abuse has stopped.

In fact, survivors often spend years, or even decades, trying to overcome the trauma symptoms that arise as they carry the weight of the abuse.

CHANGE CAN HAPPEN

The Mission

Give a Child a Voice is a 501(c)3 organization working to educate children and adults about the importance of a child's voice and encourages children to speak out when faced with difficult circumstances. They are working toward putting an end to bullying, child abuse, and life-threatening childhood illnesses.

Founder Eric Erdman was bullied & abused as a child before learning he had advanced brain cancer at the age of 16. It took being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and an overwhelming amount of community support for him to find his voice, speaking out about his experiences and becoming the author of his own story. His journey has helped him no longer be a victim of his past.

Eric started the Give a Child a Voice movement to engage the community & get children the help they need so positive change is possible. His dream has become a reality thanks to the work being done through his foundation. Dalton Wholesale Floors proudly partners with Give a Child a Voice foundation as one of our community giving programs.

“We must raise our voices to help the many boys & girls who are suffering in silence today so they may become the author of their story like I have become the author of mine.” – Eric Erdman

In a world where you can be anything, be kind. If you or someone you know is being bullied talk to a parent, a teacher or a counsellor about the bullying. They can help you work out what to do about it. You don’t have to deal with it alone.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. After being diagnosed on July 13, 2016, at age 16, Eric decided to spend his entire cancer journey having a voice for others through his Give A Child A Voice Foundation. Being diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, and after hearing the survival rate, Eric knew he must figure out a way to do his part to help advance Cancer Research. Although Eric went through four brain surgeries, 61 sessions of radiation, and 1 round of chemo, Eric believed so much in a child's voice, therefore regardless of all the grueling procedures he still signed up for additional clinical trials in the hopes the doctors will learn something from his disease to help a child in the future. Just went we thought Eric couldn't be more caring or given, he did the most incredible selfless act someone could do. Once Eric learned he would lose his life to this horrible disease, prior to Eric's passing away, Eric agreed to donate his brain to the Children’s National Hospital - Brain Tumor Institute the Center of Genetic Medicine Research to help save more children from losing their life as he did on August 13, 2020. We must Support the Fighters and Honor the Taken. Eric, a champion in life and a champion in death. Let's continue to pay it forward.

GIVE A CHILD A VOICE FOUNDER ERIC ERDMAN

Eric's Story

At the age of 16, Eric Erdman faced both brain surgery & eye surgery and lost hearing & sight in one of his eyes after he was diagnosed with Anaplastic Grade III Ependymoma.

However, the fear & grueling medical procedures aren’t what he remembers most about those months. Instead, he remember the voluntary kindness showed to him by friends, families, neighbors & even strangers. He remembers how that support transformed his perspective on life, inspiring him to share his story and pay the kindness forward.

Hear his story & learn more about his mission to give other struggling kids the same kindness he received at one of the most vulnerable times of his life, even as he continues to battle medical complications to this day.
